CIL028 is a wide-angle M12 lens that keeps a more normal image shape than most lenses in this focal range. It uses a 2.6mm effective focal length and is available in F/2.3 and F/2.6 versions. The lens gives a 100° field of view, supports 1/2" sensors, and has a 7.2mm designed image circle with 8.5mm maximum coverage.

The distortion spec is the reason to choose it. Commonlands lists the lens at -1% TV distortion in 4:3, which is low for a 2.6mm board lens. That means you get wide framing without the stretched edges and heavy software correction that many ultra-wide M12 lenses force on you later.

The lens is rated for 3MP to 5MP with 2.2μm pixels at F/2.3, and the total weight is 6.8g. The construction uses a hybrid glass/plastic design in an aluminum barrel, so the package stays practical for board-level cameras. The listed mechanical version has no ingress protection, which makes this lens a better fit for enclosed cameras than for exposed housings.

In practice, the CIL028 works well in embedded vision systems that need a wide but controlled image on larger board sensors. Barcode, kiosk, robotics, and general-purpose machine vision are all reasonable fits when geometry matters and a fisheye look would just create extra correction work.
