Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL080 8mm CS-mount lens?

The CIL080 covers sensors up to 1/1.7″ and 12MP, including the Sony IMX477 and IMX226. Its 8.1mm image circle covers those formats with margin.

Is the CIL080 compatible with the Raspberry Pi HQ camera?

Yes. The CIL080 threads directly onto the Raspberry Pi High Quality camera with no adapter, and the F/1.8 aperture matches the IMX477 well.

How much distortion does the CIL080 CS-mount lens have?

The CIL080 has 3% TV distortion. That level is acceptable for general imaging and is easy to correct in software when measurement accuracy matters.

Does the CIL080 include an IR cut filter?

No. The CIL080 ships without an integrated IR cut filter, so you add an external 650nm filter for visible-only imaging or leave it unfiltered for NIR-sensitive work.

Does the CIL080 ship same day from the US?

Yes. Commonlands ships in-stock CS-mount lenses same day from San Diego for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

What is the field of view of the CIL080 8mm CS-mount lens?

The CIL080 gives a 45° field of view at the 6.2mm image circle. Use field of view calculator to check the exact field on your sensor.

The CIL080 is an 8mm CS-mount lens for 1/1.7" sensors up to 12MP, including the Sony IMX477 on the Raspberry Pi HQ camera. It gives you a 45° field of view across an 8.1mm image circle, which lands in the standard-to-portrait range instead of the exaggerated look you get from a wide lens. The fixed F/1.8 aperture also gives you useful light margin when factory or warehouse lighting is inconsistent.

The distortion is 3% TV. That is moderate, not scary. General imaging systems can usually live with it, and measurement systems can calibrate it out in software without much pain.

The optic uses all-glass elements in an aluminum housing. That combination holds focus better over temperature than cheap plastic-element lenses, and the 28g barrel has enough stiffness that the lens does not feel disposable.

The CS-mount thread makes replacement simple. You thread out the old lens, thread in the CIL080, and go back online without adapters or shims. It drops directly onto the Raspberry Pi HQ camera and Teledyne FLIR Blackfly board cameras. You can check field of view on other sensor sizes at field of view calculator

This model does not include an integrated IR cut filter. Add an external 650nm filter for daylight-only visible imaging, or run the lens unfiltered for NIR-sensitive setups. Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego, and every lens is 100% MTF tested before it leaves our facility.
