M12 Voice-Coil Auto-focus Motor up to 7g, 400um

The CLA321-VCM is a voice-coil auto-focus motor for M12 lenses up to 7g. Its full stroke is 400μm, which is enough travel for most S-mount focus adjustments on embedded vision cameras. Rated current is 120mA, and the absolute maximum is 150mA, so driver sizing is straightforward.

The terminal resistance is 37Ω ±5Ω at 23°C. Starting current is 45-65mA, and sensitivity runs from 5 to 40 μm/mA depending on lens weight and orientation. With a 5g lens in vertical orientation, the motor reaches 600μm+ stroke at 100mA. That range matters because real focus travel depends as much on the mechanics as the coil.

The motor uses a magnetic design with red (+) and black (−) leadwires. Positive voltage on the red wire moves the lens away from the sensor. Insulation resistance exceeds 1MΩ at DC 50V, and Commonlands life-tested the unit to 500,000 cycles at 23°C.

Commonlands does not currently supply software or firmware drivers for the CLA321. We recommend a Dongwoon DW9714 or Texas Instruments DRV201 driver IC. If you want a turnkey setup with the driver and USB adapter already handled, look at the ultrasonic M12 lens focus motor, the CLA322.
